Helikon-Tex offers several items for every-day carry and low profile carry options for law enforcement personnel – the RAT Waist Pack is one of them. I had the chance to use this particular waist pack for some time now and can give you a better overview of it by now.

The RAT Waist Pack features three distinct pockets, each serving a specific purpose:
Front Pocket: This small, flat pocket is ideal for storing items that require quick access, such as keys or a phone. It is a zippered, bellowed pocket and features two internal sleeves for simple organization.
Main Pocket: The larger central pocket includes a zippered mesh pocket to the front and a velcro loops panel to the back, providing additional organization options. This pocket is spacious enough to hold various gear, from tools to personal items.
In this pocket you will find a rigid, detachable panel with holes and dedicated slits to attach shock cord. As a result, it enhances the organization of equipment, making it particularly useful for first aid kits or other critical gear that needs to be readily available. It is mounted on two velcro tabs that lace through paracord loops at the bottom and is easily removable.
Full-Open Pocket: The third pocket opens fully and is equipped with two side anti-slip pullers, making it easy to access even while wearing gloves. This pocket features velcro loop on both sides, thus allowing users to carry firearms securely, by using velcro holsters e.g.
It is a full clamshell design, thus opening completely and providing the user with a large area to attach velcro based accessories.
Carrying the Helikon-Tex RAT Waist Pack is made more comfortable with a mesh padding on the backside of the pack as well as a 4cm/1,5” webbing that can be easily adjusted with a large regular buckle and a glide buckle.
Level of manufacture
The quality of Helikon-Tex is good to go and this waist pack is no exception. The design is clean and the level of manufacture leaves no room for criticism. The company moved their production to Vietnam and one can tell the difference and step-up in quality.
There are no loose threads, the stitching is straight and tight and the materials used are high quality.
